Wave II mirrors are series of unique artisanal creations for specific environments, custom made to interact with light, boundaries, and people in the interiors. Multitude of colors, special effect varnishes, and frame shapes and sizes allows consumers to create a meaningful new relationship of our Wave II objects with surrounding colors and forms. Wave II inverts a narrative of purely utilitarian objects into an artistic interpretation of interplay of color, light, and shadow on organic-based three dimensional forms. All Wave II objects are crafted from wood, renewable and biodegradable material, further reducing waste. Our unique composite varnishes incorporate multiple ceramics particles and shimmers, creating multilayered composite finishes that draw the eye along the curves of the form while creating an additional depth and variability of color. Ranging from clear to tinted, aged, and convex, mirrors augment the overall perception of Wave II objects and their perceived role in particular interiors, allowing for further personalization and reflection of customer's subjective needs. Meditative, flowing forms of the frames describe an organic, dynamic movement. Structural clarity of the shapes supports the evocative, sensual, and emotionally charged varnishes. Light is a critical factor in perception of Wave II objects, giving them an additional brightness and volatility and forging shimmering, free-flowing color fields with distinct, but elusive flashes of different colors. This Wave II mirror is featuring out tropical sunset shimmering lacquer finish with color traveling effect from porcelain white to various shades of green and pink hues. The decision to work in custom format was based on environmental concerns and opposition to culture of mass production and pure consumerism. The choice of materials was heavily influenced by sustainability and environmental concerns. All objects are made locally in the Brooklyn Navy Yard workshop. Elimination of storage and transportation needs for mass-produced furniture in lieu of creating a custom made objects on demand allows us to reduce waste of materials and energy. About the Maker: Roman Erlikh is a professional woodworker with over 20 years’ experience. Before opening his antique furniture fabrication and restoration facility in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Roman underwent extensive apprenticeships in a variety of furniture fabricating facilities throughout New York. His first furniture collections were inspired by traditional Art Deco and Biedermeier styles interpreted through a modern lifestyle demands. After completing digital fabrication class in NYC College of Technology, Roman upgraded the studio with 3D modeling and a custom built CNC router. Stepping away from merely utilitarian view of everyday objects, his recent collections are filled with meaningful textual context while incorporating traditional and modern woodworking techniques. Roman is using practical function as a common denominator to create emotionally charged art objects, blurring the boundary between art and function. While appreciating possibilities of ordinary materials, Roman is developing new mixed media multilayered composite varnishes and utilizes decorative gilding and mica veneer to actively engage ambient light, giving an additional aspect to relation of his objects to their environment.
