About the Item

This hand carved wood model by artist Paul Jacobsen is a wonderful homage to racing and Ferrari history. The 1957 model was the test model for the entire Testa Rossa line. Translated from Italian, Testa Rossa means “red-head”, a nod to the signature Ferrari red. This series has been considered by some to be the most successful line of race cars in racing history. The Ferrari 250 Testa Rossas have set many an auction block record, garnering amounts as high as $16 million. This model is signed by the artist, and was hand-carved in 2013. About the Artist Paul Jacobsen is a fantastic artist now based in Colorado. He began his art career in the realm of design, but became a well-known artist with his Adirondack Chairs series. In the nineties, he began sculpting toy models and creating puzzles. Now, he focuses on creating marvelous hand carved scale models of luxury mobiles, such as Citroens, Bugattis, and of course, Ferraris. Jacobsen began his art career in the 1960s studying at both The University of Bridgeport and Silvermine College of Art. He studied alongside Joseph Albers, Edith Brodsky, Lev Landau, Carlus Dyer, and Taunno Kauppi, all great minds and talents of the time. By 1975, he had established himself as an award winning illustrator and graphic designer. During the late seventies and into the eighties, he experimented with different mediums such as calligraphy paintings and photography, and by the nineties, his solo exhibitions in New York and Aspen attracted major collectors from all over the world. In the mid-nineties, Jacobsen began exploring the world of “toy” models. He began focusing his artistic prowess into creating impeccable replicas of automobiles of all eras, which garnered him even more positive attention. Today, he still works in Aspen producing “Paul Jacobsen’s America.” He creates these outstandingly realistic models, as well as flag and tapestry puzzles, miniature models, and calligraphy paintings to this day.
