Antique Victorian Bedroom Suite by Edwards & Roberts, circa 1880

Here we have a very large and impressive late Victorian cylinder bureau made by the well-known and much sought after Victorian cabinet maker and retailer Edwards & Roberts of Wardour Street, London. Our antique furniture experts have dated this Victorian cylinder bureau to have been made around 1880. The desk has been fully and meticulously restored by craftsmen in our own workshops and we consider it to be of “museum quality”. This lovely Victorian Cylinder Bureau would make a bold statement wherever it was situated. Anyone who selects a piece of furniture this impressive to make their place of work will know that this cylinder bureau not only looks good but is also extremely practical. Just look at the copious amount of storage that is on offer for a start. As you can see by looking at the range of photographs supplied, the Bureau houses numerous cupboards as well as a range of drawers of varying sizes and capacity and numerous other storage areas to accommodate copious amounts of stationery, books, office supplies and anything else that you like to have at hand when working. The cylinder bureau can be positively attributed to the makers and suppliers Edwards and Roberts of London as it has a plate showing their name, as can be seen in the gallery of photographs. The retractable top encloses a neatly fitted interior comprising six small drawers together with a bank of pigeon holes. This is a truly magnificent antique Edwardian Goncalo Alves and marquetry inlaid upright display cabinet by Edwards & Roberts, circa 1890 in date. The cabinet is bordered with boxwood lines and decorated with scrolling foliage, cherubs, mythical creatures, urns of fruit and anthemions The moulded and simulated dentil cornice is above a pair of glazed panel doors with a mirrored back. The cupboard below with a pair of panel doors that open to a spacious cupboard. This is a beautiful antique Sheraton Revival top quality three door breakfront bookcase, masterfully crafted in rich satinwood by the renowned cabinet makers and retailers Edwards & Roberts, Circa 1880 in date. This magnificent bookcase is surmounted with a beautiful swan neck cornice and is mastefully inlaid with scrolling garlands, ribbons, fans and urns. The three astragal glazed doors revealing adjustable shelves, the frieze with three oak lined frieze frieze drawers with hand cut dovetails. Raised on six square tapering legs that terminate in spade feet there is no mistaking its superb quality and very grand design, which is certain to make it a talking point in your home and stand proud in whichever room you choose to display it. A very rare bedroom suite made by one of the great Victorian furniture makers Hampton & Son’s of Pall Mall London. The suite is circa 1890, made from the finest Satinwood available and with silver leaf painted detailing, each piece is Stamped with the button Label of Hampton's Pall Mall East London apart from the chair which has the Hampton plaque on the underside The dimensions of each piece are below, the main wardrobe is very large, the wardrobe with drawers is actually very small and a tallboy size, the dressing table comes with a matching chair and stool We have cleaned waxed and polished it from top to bottom, the glass in the Cherval mirror is lightly perished and aged as it’s the original plate, otherwise for me its in time warp condition Hampton and Sons were cabinet makers of Antique Furniture and were first established in ca. 1830 by William Hampton. He opened his first shop selling General household to more Fine furniture in Cranbourn Street, in London. In 1869 Williams Two sons George and William joined his business and they expended and moved to the larger premises 8 Pall Mall, London. Hampton and Sons furnished some impressive properties and boats from the Royal Yacht Britannia, the Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary, the Theatre Royal of Drury Lane, the Duke of York Theatre, the Dorchester and the Mayfair Hotels and the palaces of two Indian princes, the Nizam of Hyderabad & the Maharajah of Kashmir. Hampton and Sons had a few disasters throughout its history, it suffered a major fire in 1890 but they re-established and went to expand their business further.
