About the Item
Goby Bed is a bed in the Shaker body of work from the studio at Jeff Martin Joinery. Experimenting further with the interface between materials, the design is hinged on centuries old draw-bore bed frame construction. But performed in cast bronze.
It features cast bronze joinery, solid wood construction, 5-beam framework, frisky clips for headboard connection to wall, and leather bushings to prevent squeaking. Built for a mattress finish height at 24"-28".
Shaker is an engineering system of marrying disparate materials, bronze and wood, through precise and complex cast bronze joinery which distills the design to its purest silhouette. The system has extended itself from dining tables, though coffee tables, benches, and beds. None of which are monastic in their appearance though refined, elegant, and full of devotion. The end result of this engineering focused design system is unparalleled simplicity in silhouette, with joyful and exuberant details punctuating the work.

Jeff Martin Joinery
Jeff Martin (b. 1984, Canadian) is a contemporary sculptor and designer working across a vast array of culturally durable materials. Always approached from the mindset of an amateur, and unafraid to ask naïve questions about what a material can do, as opposed to running headlong into a well defined and indoctrinated culture of craft boundaries. Martin’s work has been included in Collective Design Fair, the permanent collection at the Museum of Glass & the Musee des Beaux-Arts. Jeff Martin Joinery is presented and available directly or through galleries: Tiwa Select (NY), Matter (NY), Egg Collective (NY), Objective (Shanghai, NY) and Spartan (Portland).
