The iconic and rare vintage Ikea KROMVIK chrome bed with the original SULTAN sprung mattress, designed by Knut Hagberg, 1982. The smaller version with an integrated small double mattress (120cm). The modernist form takes clear inspiration from Swedish architect Bruno Mathsson’s 1974 Ulla bed. Designed to compliment the best-selling SULTAN box spring mattress, composed of a slatted pine frame housing steel springs, layers of polyether foam, and originally a quilted cotton cover, which was reupholstered in a mattress fabric. IKEA has a rule that all the beds in its range should be named after Norwegian places. Thankfully, there is a Norwegian place called KROMVIK – and it’s the perfect name for a chrome bed-end. KROMVIK was launched across a whole spread in the 1982 IKEA catalogue. It stayed in the catalogue right up to the 1994 edition. One of the most iconic vintage items - and currently the only original KROMVIK bed in the world available for online purchase! Very good vintage condition with smaller expected signs of age. No significant damages on the frame whatsoever. The mattress has been cleaned and reupholstered in a new mattress fabric. Structurally perfect and fully functional. Springs in the mattress function properly and is very comfortable. Sold and shipped assembled, with the mattress. Please note that the mattress is integrated with the frame and cannot be changed without creating a new custom made wooden frame.
