Marc Held for Prisunic Molded Fiberglass Bed, c. 1966

About the Item

Be the envy of your friends with this rare and sought after piece of the Pop-Art movement history by Parisian designer Marc Held. In 1966 Held collaborated with Prisunic to design an emblematic collection of fiberglass furniture including beds, tables, desks and chairs. This listing is priced for both sides of the bed, we are not considering splitting the pair. This iconic low profile bed with integrated nightstands is fabricated from molded fiberglass and features built-in lighting (needs to be rewired). These beds can either be used as with one standard full-size mattress or two smaller custom sized mattresses so that you can split the bed apart which can be very handy when kitting out at guest room or to accommodate overnight guests. This exemplary bed by Mark Held for Prisunic would serve well in a master bedroom, in a guest room either used together or separately or as a daybed in a living room, solarium, den or family room. It would also be apt used together or singularly as a bed, daybed or casual group seating option that would grab some attention in a boutique hotel, members club, cocktail lounge, member's club or luxe clothing emporium. This would work great in a Post-Modern, Mid-Century Modern, Space Age Mod, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Zen / Minimalism room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Hollywood Regency, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. MEASUREMENTS: (both sections together) H 15" x W 91" x D 82.5" *height to bed platform is approximately 7" (individually) H 15" x W 45.5" x D 82.5" (mattress area only, together) W 56" x D 75" (fits full-size mattresses) (mattress area only, individually) W 28" x D 75" (can order custom size mattresses for this, contact us for assistance) CONDITION: Good vintage condition. As expected, signs of use commensurate with age are evident. Minor chips and scratches in the fiberglass. Both plastic dome light covers are missing but can be easily replaced. Electrical needs to be rewired for both lights. Overall presents well and is attractive and ready for immediate use in a vintage room or can be refinished (newly painted and lacquered) - contact us for details if you would like a quote for restoration, can be restored in white or any color of your choosing.

'Taliesin' Mahogany Twin Sized Bed Headboard by Frank Lloyd Wright, 1955, Signed
By Heritage-Henredon, Frank Lloyd Wright
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This gorgeously refinished Honduran Mahogany 'Taliesin' Collection headboard for a twin sized bed was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for Heritage-Henredon in 1955 and produced only for two years, therefore is now a highly sought-after and rare collectors item. This example is signed with a Heritage Henredon stamp on the lower front bar. Frank Lloyd Wright stated that one of his goals for this line was for the 'design to make the home more efficient as well as more beautiful'. Woven into each piece of this series was the chamfered wood edge with an abstracted Greek key motif, the signature detail of every Taliesin design, covering the edges of each item in the collection. All of the pieces were executed in Honduran Mahogany, a high-end luxury wood choice. His idea was to design ‘infinite adaptability to American living’, for example desks could double as dressing tables, small tables could be used as a chair or stool and bookcases had moveable tops transforming into room dividers. Decoration was limited to the greek key edges so that ‘is of the piece, not on it’ and the removal of elimination of any hardware door or drawer pulls in favor of cut out flush pulls...
