Pierre Chapo Model 'Godot/L01' Double Bed with Headboard in Elm, 1960s

About the Item

Pierre Chapo elm double bed with headboard and newer upholstered mattress. Designed in 1959 as a special commission for the writer Samuel Beckett. Chapo wittily named it “Godot,” in reference to the play, Waiting for Godot. L01 became its name in the Chapo nomenclature and it can be considered the starting point for the first Chapo collection, which was officially presented in early 1963. This piece is made from solid elm wood, features Chapo's signature handcrafted joints, thick round legs and simple low, flat headboard. In original condition with visible wear consistent with its age and use. Newly made white textile covered mattress included.
