Pair of Vintage Italian Bedside Tables Attributed to Silvio Cavatorta
About the Item
Pair of Mid-Century Italian bedside tables / night stands attributed to Silvio Cavatorta (circa 1950s). Very stylish pieces of teak veneered wood with abundant character. There are two horizontal surfaces for storage or display with the top made of glass which sits firmly on its support. There is additional storage behind the smart tambour doors of each table. The upside-down-V legs and frame are exquisite. These pieces will add interest and style to any room. Commensurate with age, they are in fair overall condition with evident nicks, scrapes and blemishes throughout in line with their vintage character. Silvio Cavatorta took the reins of the Roman family business Cavatorta in the 1930s. The company produced its furniture in small and exclusive series and its main customers were embassies, hotels, schools and ships. Each furniture was uniquely designed for each specific commission. While most of the other well-known and Italian designers in the second half of the twentieth century embraced industrial methods of production and reproduction, the company Cavatorta remains true to its standards in the rejection of large industrial production and in favour of valuable materials and incomparable craftsmanship. Thanks to unique commissions, the artisanal and material production style of the family business and a cosmopolitan interest that went beyond Italian design, Cavatorta furniture remains unique, rare and of the highest quality, both from an aesthetic and constructive point of view.
