Two Night Tables Italian Design Handcrafted Contemporary Wood and Oxidized Resin

About the Item

A pair of bedside tables from 1950s in wood gets a new contemporary style with the illusion of tables in different metals. The cabinets are part of the Italian project Q.bo sculture, an artistic project who elevate the object to a real sculpture while keeping the functional part it was create for. No longer furniture but indipendent form able to fill a space and arouse emotions by itself. While the inside of the cabinet is made by two coats of black resin, the exterior had a different treatment. First it was hand painted in three coats of resin with mixed metal powder (copper, gold, brass) and, once it dried, the artist sprayed an acid to oxidate the resin. The final effect is surprising: each metal oxidation turned copper green, gold yellow and brass red. Unique sculptures to furnish bedrooms or living rooms. Every piece is created in an accurate way by Marco Padovese, an artisan artist with a deep knowledge in resins. Normally this kind of eco-friendly resin is used to coat floor or wall, instead of tiles, in kitchens and bathrooms. This hand painted resin technique applied to furniture creates a new surface with visual and tactile effect and gives also a protection from scratches and small bumps. Furthermore the cabinet is cleanable with a damp cloth and is water-repellent. The wood is in constant motion, cracks and small chinks on the surface are natural and unstoppable parts of the life of the pieces.

The Italian project Q.bo Sculture does not intend to recreate the object in a different form but to elevate it to a real sculpture while mantaining the functional part it was create for. No longer furniture but indipendent form able to fill a space and arouse surrealistic emotions by itself. The structure has still the original wood, as visible on the inner side and on the back, while in the cut sections a new plywood has been added. Characteristic is his rare three legs pedestal. Drawer can be opened as originally, door opens downwards and closes with magnet. The inside of the cabinet is natural as it shows the authentic wood. The finish is eco-friendly resin colored In Verona red, mustard yellow and blue hand applied with a spatula in two coats. The project Q.bo sculture does not intend to recreate the object in a different form but to elevate it to a real sculpture while mantaining the functional part it was create for. No longer furniture but indipendent form able to fill a space and arouse emotions by itself. After a visit at Depero house, I had the inspiration for this night stand from 1950s. The structure has still the original wood, as visible on the inner side and original hardware, while in the cut sections a new plywood has been added. The finish is brown and red-copper colored resin applied with a spatula in two coats. This technique creates a visual and tactile effect and gives a protection from scratches and small bumps. Furthermore the cabinet is cleanable with a damp cloth and is water-repellent. Drawer and shuttle can be opened as originally but they are adapted to the new shape. The inside of the cabinet is natural as it shows the authentic wood...

“..and then, finally, comes the piece that alone describes the project without adding other words.” The project Q.bo sculture does not intend to recreate the object in a different form but to elevate it to a real sculpture while mantaining the functional part it was create for. No longer furniture but indipendent form able to fill a space and arouse emotions by itself. This sculpture was born breaking up a night stand from 1950s. The structure has still the original wood as visible on the back of the piece, while in the cut sections a new wood part has been added. The finish is red, blue and orange resin applied with a spatula in two coats. This technique creates a visual and tactile effect and gives a protection from scratches and small bumps. Furthermore the cabinet is cleanable with a damp cloth and is water-repellent. The shuttle can be opened as originally but it has been adapted to the new shape.
