About

A gorgeous Louis XV style walnut bergere in a small size known as a child or sample chair from Belle Epoque period France c.1895 now upholstered in a charming silk. Please take a moment to look at the elegant frame of this chair that reproduces in miniature the lovely sweeping lines made famous during the reign of Louis XV (1723-1774). The rounded back rail flows beautifully down to the arms while the cabriole legs support the seat with the lovely curves visible on the chair available to be seen from any direction. The chair has been upholstered in a marvelous Brunschwig et Fils silk with each panel featuring a different beast of the forest or jungle. Often the small scale chairs were used for the children of priveleged households or offered in a cabinet maker's shop as samples to choose from when selecting furnishings for a new home. The attention to detail and proportion even at this scale showcase the level of skill offered by the artisan that remains evident today.
