Large Chinese Lacquered and Gilt Wooden Model of a Pagoda or Pavilion
$4,200

About
A large two-tiered hexagonal Chinese architectural model of a pagoda or pavilion, Qing Dynasty, late 19th century.
The bottom tier with columns surrounded by writhing dragons that have been carved separately, and can rotate on the column. Scenes of scholars in garden settings are carved into panels along the middle section. The top tier with nice fretwork surrounding the columns, all diner a hip and gabled roof.
The structure lacquered in a nice deep red, with the cravings highlighted in gilt. The color scheme and workmanship typical of Southern China, pointing to a Fujianese origin.
