Rare Midcentury Dutch Oldtimer Caravan by Kema, Model Kolibri, 1960s

About the Item

Absolutely magnificent and adorable light weight caravan, designed and manufactured by A.G.P. van Kemenade. The Caravan or mini mobile home thank's it's name to the small Humming bird (in Dutch 'Kolibri'), and was made from Multiplex and therefore very light (ca. 330 Kg). It features a well streamlined shape for a steady ride to the road. The interior consists of breathteaking kitchen cabinet's and while the caravan is such a cute small one, the space inside had to be cleverly used. Therefore multiple ingenious, hidden spaces were designed for storage and clothing. The information label which was placed inside the clothing storage, is unfortunately damaged and can't be read properly. For ventilation purposes, a huge rooftop can be opened, as well as some of the windows and a front door which can be completely or partly opened. The combination of the table and sofa's (upholstery not original) can be easily transformed into a small double bed. A dustbin (bucket) is placed underneath the caravan and covered with a hatch. Vinyl floor covering with a beautiful Constructivist print (probably Asbestos), can be replaced. The caravan remains in great condition and was lacquered in Green and Grey over it's original White color. Inside we placed a very rare water reservoir which comes from another oldtimer caravan. A small refridgerator can be placed inside the kitchen block (not included). An original Hammock with Green Canvas (some stains of rust) also comes with this piece, which was probably used as a Child's bed or extra storage purposes (not pictured). Tires have been recently renewed. Width of this piece is 275 cm plus 125 cm drawbar. While the Caravan features some sort of rail system to one side, it is possible to mount a small tent for extra space and comfort although it's not going to be easy to find one perfectly suitable for the shape of the Caravan. More additional images on request. Kema flourished from 1958-1973 while the business didn't survive the economical crisis back then. Not much well preserved pieces to find anymore, which makes this piece a true collecter's item!
