A superb copy of the first UK edition of this philosophical novel from French existentialist author, Albert Camus.
The first UK edition, first impression with no further impressions stated.
This work was first published in French, titled 'La Chute', the year prior. Translated into English by Justin O'Brien.
In the publisher's original price unclipped dust wrapper.
'The Fall' was Camus' last work of fiction. Set in Amsterdam, the work consists of a series of monologues by the protagonist Jean-Baptiste Clamence, as he tells his life story to a stranger. The work acts as a secular exploration of the fall of man from the Garden of Eden, alongside themes of existence, truth and imprisonment which characterised much of Camus' fiction and non fiction.
The first UK edition of this influential work of existentialist fiction.
In the publisher's original cloth binding, with price unclipped dust wrapper. A touch of fading to back strip tail and tail of front board, otherwise externally excellent. Dust wrapper exceptionally bright. Two minor chips to dust wrapper back strip head, with handling marks to rear wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright.
