1958 Our Man in Havana

About the Item

A smart first edition copy of this black comedy by Graham Greene, an exceptional novel by one of the leading writers of the twentieth century, scarce to see in the promotional wraparound band. The first edition, first impression of this work. In the original publisher's unclipped dustwrapper, in the very scarce wraparound band, which is promoting the film. 'Our Man in Havana' is a black comedy set in Havana, Cuba, revolving around the world of the Secret Intelligence Service MI6. In the novel, Greene pokes fun at MI6, and their ease in believing the reports of local informants. Greene pulled from his own experiences working in MI6 after he joined the service in 1941. He was appointed to deal with the counter-espionage in the Iberian Peninsula. Here he learnt that some German agents in Portugal were sending fictitious reports for monetary gains. Greene was especially inspired by a Spanish double agent named 'Garbo'. The books predated the Cuban Missile Crisis, and seems to anticipate the events of 1962. The novel was later adapted into a film in 1959, into an opera in 1963, and a play in 2007. Greene was one of the leading English novelists of the twentieth century. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper, and wraparound band. Externally, smart. Very light rubbing to the extremities. Very light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Minor edge wear to the dust wrapper, with a few scattered spots, including to the reverse. Wraparound band is sunned to the spine, with a few very light marks. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Overall: Near Fine

Man to Man: An Obsession Author Pierre Passebon and Florent Barbarossa A celebration of the masculine body through an astonishing private collection of photographs, paintings, sculpture, ceramics, and drawings. From the idealized nude heroes of ancient Greece to the confrontational frontal nudes of the 1970s and the intimate and sensual photorealist nudes painted by French artist Jacques Sultana, the infinite possibilities to represent the naked male body have fascinated collector Pierre Passebon for decades. This new volume in The Pierre Passebon Collection series celebrates a powerful, revolutionary, and sometimes controversial selection of artworks depicting the male nude from Passebon’s outstanding personal collection of paintings, sculpture, photography, ceramics, and drawings, challenging taboos surrounding male eroticism and inviting the reader to reassess notions of male identity and normative views of the human body. • Man in Cosmos ring by Björn Weckström
    By Bjorn Weckstrom
    Located in Uccle, BE
Original ring by Björn Weckström. The shank is made of sterling silver and would best fit a ring size 7,5 / 8. However, due to the design of the ring, it would be comfortable worn by anyone, on any finger (except maybe the smallest). The head is composed of a big acrylic ball with air bubbles floating between the hands of a human-like silver-made figure. It has yellow and green details inside the head. Björn Weckström is a Finnish designer and sculptor (born 1935). Formed at the Helsinki Goldsmith School, he started designing with a typical Scandinavian Minimalist approach, but soon found his own particular style. He mainly uses of acrylic, gold, silver and semi precious stones. Often asymmetrical, mixing rough and matt surfaces with shiny ones, his creations have a bio organic feel. Taking inspiration from nature, both from mineral phenomenon and living creatures, he infuses his designs with a particular touch that can give them an almost alien look. His most famous piece was probably the Planetoid...
