About the Item
A scarce and fine limited edition of William Bligh's log of his second breadfruit voyage of 1791, on board the H.M.S. Providence.
A scarce work, this is number sixty-three of five-hundred copies produced.
Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, five folding maps, and numerous full page and vignette illustrations. Collated, complete.
A facsimile of Captain William Bligh's handwritten log of his time as Captain of the HMS Providence, the manuscript of which is held in the Public Record Office, Kew. The log features a wealth of previously unpublished material, including Bligh's attempts to trace the course of the Bounty mutineers.
Bligh is best known for the mutiny which took place on the HMS Bounty, which occurred in 1789 when the ship was under his command.
In the publisher's original half calf binding with cloth covered boards, and in cloth covered slip case. Externally, fine. Slip case in fine condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
