About the Item
Hard to find book showcasing the work of Enrique Metinides (Feb. 1934- Jan. 2022) Mexican photojournalist known for his amazing and shocking photos of accidents, fires, and violent incidents in the streets of Mexico City. The book is First Edition, published in 2000 with 240 pages with B/W and color photos with autobiographical texts in Spanish as told by the artist. Metinides, born in Mexico City to Greek migrant parents got his first camera at age 9, and from that day on he wandered the streets capturing dramatic incidents with an amazing sense of timing and an acute instinct and sensitivity for photographic composition. "El Teatro De Los Hechos" became a cult publication after Metinide's work left the shady and "vulgar" confines of tabloid publications to become a recognized art form with shows in museums and galleries in Mexico, New York, London, Madrid, etc. He was often referred to as the "Mexican Weegee".
