An examination of American painted furniture as an exciting part of American furniture history. The book illustrates that truly great furniture aspires also to be art in both form and decoration. During the 19th century, the new civilization in America fueled an artistic and manufacturing golden age. At that point American furniture was gilded, painted, stained, and ornamented in a variety of imaginative ways. The book is illustrated with more than 300 photographs, with a special section on painting and gilding techniques and a source directory. NPT Books a division of N.P.
