Barbie Millicent Roberts: an Original - David Levinthal - 1st Edition, 1998

About the Item

First Edition, published by Pantheon Books, New York, 1998. Known for his playful, provocative use of toys and figurines shot in close-up, recreating the myths, preoccupations and visual history of American pop culture, David Levinthal is the perfect choice to photograph this light-hearted and stylish photobook of the various fashion looks of the iconic Barbie doll. Taken ‘on the eve of her fortieth birthday’, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the doll’s release, Barbie is clothed in the doll’s rare original ensembles inspired by the great couturiers - Chanel, Givenchy, Dior, Balenciaga - shot colourfully in the style of classic fashion photography, this is Barbie as she was meant to be seen and celebrated. Hardback in publisher’s original dust jacket, text in English, around 90 pages, heavily illustrated in colour throughout.

  • Tahiti Tattoos - Gian Paolo Barbieri - 1st edition, Cologne, 1998

Published by Taschen, 1st edition, Cologne, 1998. Hardback with English text. This lavishly illustrated book showcases the art of Tahitian tattoos in black-and-white masterly reproduced photographs. These photographs evoke the memory of Gauguin’s Tahiti which was in the collective yearnings of the West a century ago. This amazing book came out of the mission where French Vogue sent fashion photographer Gian Paolo Barbieri on a photo assignment, where he fell in love with the dreamy Polynesian and its rich artistic traditions. Complemented by two essays on skin by Michel Tournier and The History of Tattooing by Raymond Graffe, this book looks at tattooing as an artistic practice from all angles. A great inspiration book for tattoo artists...

    Located in Norton, MA
Large Spain Castilla Robert De Vaugondy 1751 1st Edition -Colored- Ric.a001 Coming from a family of cartographers, a descendant of the famous Nicolas Sanson and ordinary geographer of the king, Gilles Robert de Vaugondy makes himself known by his maps of the French provinces. He published an Essay on the History of Geography (1755) from which he excluded the physical geography "too systematic". After a Small Atlas (1748), he draws a universal Atlas (1758), a portable Atlas (1762). His Atlas of the revolutions of the globe remains unpublished. His warnings and prefaces, his book reviews reveal a Cartesian mind and solid knowledge. Very early, he associates with his works his son Didier who publishes, since 1742, the methodical tables of Nicolas Sanson, two Globes, one terrestrial, the other celestial (1752). He is credited with a map of Poland...
