Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher are a photographer duo who have worked together for over 35 years, documenting Africa from all angles. The ‘Africaine Ceremony’ series is their best-known work, lauded equally for its aesthetic qualities, photographic prowess, as well as its anthropological importance. This is a precious documentation of humanity's most ancient rites that are gradually receding into the mists of history.
Profusely illustrated with vibrant colour plates, the duo pays homage to the rituals that mark every important occasion in tribal life — birth, initiation, courtship, marriage, royal coronations, seasonal rituals, healing exorcisms, and death.
