Christine Furuya-Gössler: Mémoires, 1978–1985 is the third and most comprehensive of Seiichi Furuya’s elegies to his late wife. Published by the great, now discontinued, Japanese publisher Korinsha, this landscape-format book features more than five hundred pages of chronologically sequenced images. With each photograph appearing on the right side of a spread and indexed with a location and date, along with a brief commentary, a personal and succinct trigger of memory for Furuya himself as we move with him through their life together. Intimately shot in black and white, the sense of mourning is carried through this record of past moments, until the sudden introduction of colour in 1985, the last year of her life, which acts as a sort of 'coda' for the elegiac photographs which come before. A profoundly personal and brilliant photobook.
Softcover in publisher's French flaps, with original obi strip and publisher's inserts. Illustrated in black and white throughout and with colour plates at rear, text in English and Japanese.
