Gaston Suisse (1896-1988), Splendeur du Laque Art Dèco

About the Item

Year of publication 2013, Number of pages 269, Format 25 x 28 cm. Photos 250 including colors. Binding Hardcover under illustrated dust jacket French language. Very young, Gaston Suisse went regularly to the Jardin des Plantes, observing the animals for a long time to make sketches of them. At the age of 15, it was at the Jardin des Plantes that he met Paul Jouve, an already famous and established artist. Immediately the love of animals, observation and drawing brought them together and marked the beginning of a long friendship. Accepted in the contest of the Superior School of Decorative Arts, he will learn the rudiments of the job of lacquerer. Immediately fascinated by the material, he never stopped learning, documenting and experimenting. His work, extremely original and personal, is that of a highly cultured man, passionate about research and new experiences. Gaston Suisse naturally takes his place among that of the greatest artists of the 20th century and in the movement of the 1930s. His works are now highly sought after and internationally recognized on the art market. This book is the first monograph of the work of this exceptional designer and lacquerer.
