The Grandes Heures of Jean, Duke of Berry by Marcel Thomas. George Braziller, 1971. 1st Ed hardcover with dust jacket and with the original Mylar protective overlay jacket. The book is an exact-size facsimile and is printed on heavy, ivory paper. The script represents an early form of French gothic. Includes 109 miniatures reproduced in the exact size of the original manuscript, in four colors and gold; the book was best known for its personalized borders, "a kaleidoscope of graceful and monstrous hybrids, beggars, ugly old women, musicians, monks, bishops, and angels arranged with the limitless imagination of the medieval mind." The introduction and legends are by Marcel Thomas.
