Lynn Goldsmith. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band. Signed, Limited Ed Book

About the Item

“By the end of Darkness, I had found my adult voice.” In 1977, dismissed by the press as a one-hit wonder, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band entered the studio to record the album that transformed a “kid from New Jersey” into America’s poet laureate of life’s underdogs. The tour that followed would come to be regarded as one of the most legendary in rock ‘n’ roll history, propelled by the nervous intensity of a group determined to prove itself. Present throughout the recording, release, and tour of Darkness on the Edge of Town, Lynn Goldsmith tracks these memorable steps in Springsteen’s journey to becoming an American icon. With illuminating forewords from both artists, the book gathers hundreds of photographs—classic, rare, and previously unseen—that bring to life a star at his hungriest. In Springsteen’s words, “These photos remain a record of a time when I truly played for my life, night after night.” It was a standard matched by the E Street Band, seen here in its historic lineup of Roy Bittan, Clarence Clemons, Danny Federici, Garry Tallent, Steven Van Zandt, and Max Weinberg. Spotlighted more here than in any previous photography collection, the electric presence of the E Street band allows Goldsmith to capture the often-overlooked social, collaborative side of the Boss’s creative process. Yet it’s not just the process she captures; it’s also the character of the music itself. As she writes in the foreword: “I saw firsthand how Bruce and the E Street Band dedicated their bodies, pulled notes out of the air, left everything on the stage to create a musical performance that suggested the failures and glories of being human.” Treading through an icy New York, or on tour visiting cinemas, diners, markets, and parks, her photos also serve as a document of the same Americana that Springsteen chronicled so vividly in his songs. Contrasting between intimate and expansive, between pinball games and sold-out shows, Darkness on the Edge of Town tells the behind-the-scenes story of this transformative record and tour that led to Springsteen’s stadium-sized acclaim. The collection gives fans inside access that only Goldsmith had as one of Springsteen’s closest companions during a seminal moment in the history of rock music. With talent, sensitivity, and vision, Goldsmith illuminates a never-before-seen side to Bruce Springsteen and his “band of brothers,” the E Street Band. Collector’s Edition (Nr. 201–1,978), each copy numbered and signed by Lynn Goldsmith

The definitive photographic history of how hip-hop blinged out and redefined the world of jewelry, luxury, and style. Signed black-and-white pigment print on Canson Platine paper, 16 x 20 in.; hardcover volume in a slipcase, 9.8 x 13.4 in., 6.29 lb., 388 pages. Whether it’s diamond-encrusted grills, oversized “truck” style chains, bust-down Rolex and Patek Philippe watches, or a Tiffany necklace, jewelry is a cornerstone of hip-hop culture. Glittering, blinged-out jewels are the shining statement of a collective identity: unapologetic, charismatic, and street savvy. Spanning the history of hip-hop jewelry, from the 1980s to today, Ice Cold: A Hip-Hop Jewelry History is a stunning compilation of storytelling and visuals. Hundreds of extraordinary images of every major hip-hop artist on record celebrate how “ice” has become a proclamation of identity and self-expression. Starting with Run-DMC’s gold Adidas pendants and Eric B. & Rakim’s ostentatious dookie rope chains and Mercedes medallions, the jewelry then transforms from street style into a booming design culture. The hip-hop tradition of “show up and show out” reaches new heights with artists like Pharrell Williams, Jay-Z, Gucci Mane, and Cardi B...

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Assembling the definitive Marvel Age Avengers anthology By early 1963 the foundations of the Marvel Universe had been laid. • Elvis and the Birth of Rock and Roll. Limited Edition, Signed Book
    By Alfred Wertheimer, TASCHEN
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
“Elvis who?” was photographer Alfred Wertheimer’s response when, in early 1956, an RCA Victor publicist asked him to photograph an up-and-coming crooner from Memphis. Little did Wertheimer know that this would be the job of his life: just 21 years old, Elvis Presley was—as we now know—about to become a legend. Trailing him like a shadow, Wertheimer was given unlimited Scope to get up close and personal with Elvis; even as the singer was seducing young women in dark hallways, he allowed the photographer to record his every move. Wertheimer took nearly 3,000 photographs of Presley that year, creating a penetrating portrait of a man poised on the brink of superstardom. Extraordinary in its intimacy and unparalleled in its Scope, Wertheimer’s Elvis project immortalized a young man in the very process of making history. (Just a month after he shot Elvis recording the “Don’t Be Cruel”/“Hound Dog” record, it became the first ever to top all three Billboard charts.) This Collector’s Edition of just 1,706 numbered copies signed by Wertheimer brings together his most remarkable Elvis shots from 1956, along with a selection of his historic 1958 pictures of the star being shipped off to an army base in Germany. Though many of Wertheimer’s photos of Elvis are among the best known, nearly half of the photographs in this book have never been published before. Each chapter is illustrated with an original poster created for this book by Hatch Show Print, one of the oldest letterpress print shops in America. In business since 1879, Hatch printed posters for vaudeville, circuses, and entertainers on world tour in the early 20th century; and created many of the powerful woodblock images that helped define the look of country music in the 1940s and rock and roll (including many early Elvis posters...
