Móvel Moderno Brasileiro, Brazilian Modern Design, Book - Olhares

About the Item

The book extensively categorizes the work of 15 of the most representative Brazilian furniture designers in the modern period, between the 1940s and 70s, including: Lina Bo Bardi, Joaquim Tenreiro, José Zanine Caldas, Sergio Rodrigues, and Jorge Zalszupin. Their works are detailed over 484 pages in a comprehensive sampling that allows for an understanding of the creative reasoning and the variations in constructive and aesthetic solutions employed by each of the designers discussed. The text, authored by Professor Maria Cecilia Loschiavo – the author of the most important academic bibliographic source on the subject, originally dated 1995 and reissued by Olhares – in partnership with her colleague Tatiana Sakurai, revisits the formative elements of the genesis of Brazilian modern design and provides an analysis that leads the subject to its current context of dialogue with art and international valorization. Additionally, there are biographical profiles of each of the main authors and two extra chapters, one on architects' contributions to modern furniture design and the final chapter on other contributions, making clear the extent of production in the period.
