Published by Hallmark Cards, Inc., 1st edition, 1993. Hardback with English text. Van Vechten turned to photography in 1932 at the age of fifty-one. In his thirty years of photo-taking, he accumulated a distinctive body of work which bears his personal mark. This book is profusely illustrated with black-and-white finely reproduced photographs, which mainly consist of portraitures. Van Vechten often times knows his sitters personally and chooses specific props to highlight an aspect of their personalities, on other occasions, he used simple draping fabrics or a small corner of a room to give the sitter’s posture and gaze room for expression.
