Robert de Balkany & Princess Maria Gabriella of Savoy (Book)

About the Item

These two separate sales were for the sales of Robert de Balkany which was in the hands of Sothebys in 2016 and The Princess Maria Gabriella of Savoy, who was the daughter of the last King of Italy, for whom Christies acted in 2007. They are offered together because they were husband and wife married in 1969 and divorced in 1990. The de Balkany sale was for the disposal of the contents of his Hotel Particulaire in Paris - Hotel de Feuquieres at 62 rue de Feuquieres, the contents of which were quite magnificent and included some important pieces. There are 792 lots in total in two catalogues, with colour illustrations and descriptions. The Savoy sale features 410 lots, many of which are family pieces.

Objects of Desire By: Maria Hummer Tuttle Photography by Miguel Flores-Vianna Foreword by Edmund de Waal A personal celebration of the hunt for—and joy of living with— favorite collections and things What is it in our homes that we truly value and why? What would you take when you leave in fear of fire? Our home is an expression of ourselves in many ways, largely through the objects we accumulate. For Maria Hummer-Tuttle, the objects she has collected over the years, from the priceless to the flea-market finds, are precious not only for their beauty, uniqueness, and craftsmanship but also for their connection to the past and the future, for their resonance with one another. In this exquisitely illustrated book, she serves as our guide through three dwellings, focusing our attention on objects ranging from an ancient Chinese horse sculpture...
