Rose Uniacke at Work

About the Item

Author Rose Uniacke, with Alice Rawsthorn, Photographs by François Halard and Simon Upton and Luke White An unprecedented level of craft is the key signature of Uniacke’s design ethos, on display in this much-anticipated monograph of notable homes she has created. In-demand London-based interiors and furniture designer Rose Uniacke beautifully showcases a number of homes she has designed, boasting clean lines and calm, light-filled spaces, and showrooms defined by an effortless blend of traditional details within contemporary spaces. Whether the project is an urban townhouse, a seaside retreat, or a London villa, the approach of Uniacke is always the same—a collaboration with clients to make understated, refined sanctuaries that offer the perfect settings for everyday life. The book is sumptuously illustrated with two hundred color photographs that truly capture the serenity and timelessness of Uniacke’s hand-hewn cultivated style. The pages of this book exude the same warmth of a Uniacke interior, heightened by the author’s own words as she describes in detail the specifics of each of the eleven projects explored. The result is akin to an informal conversation, with Uniacke revisiting her journey to share instincts and inspirations. An index of Rose Uniacke Editions, the designer’s furniture, lighting, and textiles, completes this elegant volume.i About The Author Rose Uniacke is an architectural interior designer, a furniture and lighting designer, and an antiques dealer. • John Richardson at Home
By John Richardson, Rizzoli International Publications
    Located in New York, NY
Famed Picasso biographer and art historian Sir John Richardson opens the doors of residences from his life, revealing an autobiographical sketch through handsomely decorated rooms filled with art, antiques, and intriguing mementoes, each with a special story. John Richardson's Bohemian Aristocrat interiors are, and have been throughout his life, filled with fine English and American antiques; interesting textiles; works of art by friends, legendary artists Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Lucian Freud, Andy Warhol, and Robert Mapplethorpe; vivid color combinations; and objects that prompt stories from a well-lived life. From London and the stately buildings of Stowe School, in the idyllic Buckinghamshire countryside, to the south of France, New York City, and the Connecticut countryside, Richardson shares the story of his life through places, objects, and people, a form of autobiography, gloriously illustrated, entertainingly told. In stories about his residences in the south of France (at the Château de Castille with celebrated art historian and collector Douglas Cooper), London (a set of rooms at the famed Albany apartment house), and the United States (glamorous New York City apartments and a country retreat in Connecticut), Richardson reveals his life through a mélange of interesting places, mementoes, works of art, furnishings that prompt stories, and an endlessly fascinating assortment of friends and acquaintances--Fernand Léger, Lady Diana Cooper, Fran Lebowitz...

  • Barkley L. Hendricks: Portraits at The Frick
    By Rizzoli International Publications
    Located in New York, NY
American artist Barkley L. Hendricks (1945–2017) revolutionized contemporary portraiture with his vivid depictions of Black subjects beginning in the late 1960s. This book contextualizes Hendricks’s portraits at different stages of the country’s history and places him in the pantheon of innovative twentieth-century artists. Hendricks developed his signature style at a time of significant social and cultural change in the United States, especially with regard to Black artists, and amid a perceived bifurcation between abstraction and representation. He produced portraits from the late 1960s through the early 1980s. Following a hiatus during which he made landscapes, basketball paintings, works on paper, and photographs, he resumed his portraiture practice from 2002 until his death in 2017. Hendricks’s portrait paintings, often derived from photographs of friends and family, hired models, or figures he encountered on the street, were inspired by the artist’s research, international travels, and visits to museums like The Frick Collection, where he studied centuries-old European paintings...
