About the Item
For sale a very rare early 19th century infants coffin carrier, this would of been housed on a horse and cart hearse. The casket has a decorative wrought iron edging two thirds of the way around, the missing section is where the horseman would of sat, behind him would of sat the close family to morn the infant in transit.
The casket is glazed on all four side with its original acid etched glass, and both ends open to ease the removable of the coffin. Both original wrought iron latches are present and working
The coffin is made from a hardwood with a continuous carved frieze decoration around the top & bottom sections. The two wrought iron straps are still in situ were the casket would of been attached to the hearse. Makes for a wonderful coffee table
