England 1900 Victorian Army Officer Travel Chest In Leather And Bronze

About the Item

A military officer chest. Exceptional square British military officer's travel trunk chest, from the late Victorian era, circa 1900. It was superbly rebuilt and refurbished in beautifully patinated antique leather with accents in solid brass and fitted with two hinged handles. The brass badge attached is of the Royal Coat of Arms, Infantry battalion reading as follow; Gibraltar Talavera Northamptonshire. A wonderful piece with a lot of military history and surely they will be a great conversation pieces. This pieces can be used for a superb coffee table with a customized beveled glass on top. Walker Note: The Battle of Talavera (27–28 July 1809) was fought just outside the town of Talavera de la Reina, Spain some 120 kilometers (75 mi) southwest of Madrid, during the Peninsular War. At Talavera, a British army under Sir Arthur Wellesley combined with a Spanish army under General Cuesta fought in operations against French-occupied Madrid. At nightfall, the French army withdrew a short distance after several of its attacks had been repulsed; the allies, having suffered comparable casualties to the French, made no attempt to pursue.
