A full size bookcase with this level of workmanship and detail would be an incredible find, but this beautiful piece of furniture—at only eight inches tall—is perfectly constructed down to the tiniest minutia. Crafted of a warm hardwood, the small etagere recreates the free-standing shelves used in well-to-do Qing-dynasty homes to display one's collection of fine porcelains, bronzes, and scholars' rocks. The proportions and joinery techniques all impeccably reflect the best of Chinese furniture design.
