1940s Antique Nautical Half Block Model English Schooner Mounted on an Oak Board
About the Item
1940s half block model of an English schooner mounted on an oak board. Excellent condition, board 51.3 x 11.5 cm - 20.19 x 4.52 inches, thickness 7 cm - 2.75 inches.
The half block model, used to design boats, represented for the carpenters a tool to see in advance the types of ships and vessels that subsequently they had to build. The block of wood, shaped into various desired shapes, was split and the shares became geometric elements useful for drawing water lines that after would become the ship. According to the arrangement of volumes and the relationships between the various parts of the hull it was obtained a table with the necessary allowances to set the structure of the boat.
