Ship's Anemometer and Aerovane Repurposed as Kinetic Sculpture

About the Item

A ship's anemometer and aerovane used to measure wind speed and direction. These were mounted on top of large ships and connected to an instrument panel on the bridge. Old school technology. Once the brass and chrome are polished and the fiberglass tail repainted, these make a great kinetic sculpture to use outside, inside, on the porch, etc. The prop will spin with the wind and the tail will move with the wind direction. C. 1970's It has a nicely weighted 7" diameter base and the ability to be mounted on a post or platform if you desire, or it can simply sit on a table or pedestal outside and stay put. Deborah Lockhart Phillips, owner of The Lockhart Collection, sources one-of-a-kind pieces from all over the world; and often transforms nautical artifacts into functional or decorative uses. She has been in the business for over 30 years and has been sharing the collection on 1st Dibs since 2013 and on Nantucket Island since 2009.
