17th century carved oak Statue of a saint

About the Item

This is a wonderful quality 17th century oak statue of a saint. Huge size and very finely done. The saint we believe is Saint Nicholas and is complete with his crook. The patina this piece has is incredible and shows the pieces true age. Whats interesting about this carving is it actually has carved details on its back which would suggest it could be seem from all angles. The overall condition as you would expect with a piece as early as this is worn with minor restorations but thankfully no major faults. The statue is very heavy and stands on a later wooded base which we believe was added in the 19th century to keep the statue stable which it is. A great piece for collectors and hugely decorative as well. Height 114cm Width 64cm Depth 33cm
