Great Quality Carved & Superb Condition Wooden Corpus Christi on Crucifix, 1900s

About the Item

Antique Arts & Crafts crucifix with stunning hand carved details and an amazing patina. This remarkable and good size sculpture of Christ (who has just bowed His head) on the cross is different to almost all others. The artist who hand-sculpted this impressive work of religious art has created a church relic that, in our view, is second to none. And that is because this uniquely hand carved corpus comes with numerous stylized details that are unlike anything you will have ever seen. It is a style of carving that is very recognizable for being from the European Arts and Crafts era, but some of the better artists from that era were able to create unique ways of stylizing details and whomever created this corpus too was one such artist. If you look at the corpus then you too will see the combination of stylized but very realistic details at the same time and that also makes this sizeable and impressive crucifix more powerful and compelling than most. In many parts of the world humanity has come a long way since the life of Christ, but a lot of His work still needs to be done and He keeps inspiring many of us to move forward. The artist whom created this antique himself too must have been inspired by the life and history of Christ, because how else can anyone create such a divine masterpiece. This antique too is great value for money. Also, because perfect packing and worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days are complimentary. Maximum height x width x depth: 19 x 11.5 x 2.8 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish and meaningful and for craftsmanship of years gone by. • Large Antique Crucifix with a Hand Carved & Bronzed Wooden Corpus of Jesus 1800s
    Located in Lisse, NL
Unique and large size, antique corpus of Christ on a blackened oak cross. If you are looking for a large crucifix with a not too overwhelming corpus of Christ for your house of prayer or for your home(chapel) then this unique ecclesiastical antique from the late 1800s could be the one. According to the former owner, this ancient bronze-color painted and sizable corpus and cross came from a monastery in Germany. The details in the anatomy of this Christ sculpture are very well carved and they clearly reveil the work of a seasoned carver / sculptor. We were also immediately impressed by the coloring, because the patina on this corpus from a little distance very much resembles the patina of antique bronze sculptures that you can find in every major market square here in Europe. We also particularly appreciate the details in the face and the position of the head of Christ. Both the angle in which He bowes His head and the details in His face are very realistic and they leave a lasting impression. We believe the artist has perfectly captured the moment in which Jesus bowed His head as He died on the cross. The ebonized oak cross is original to this corpus, but we think it was ebonized later in time, because it makes this unique and stunning sculpture stand out better. This solid oak cross has metal-strengthened openings in the back (both atop and at the bottom) via which this crucifix is safe and easy to mount. Because of the quality, the rarity, the large size, the beauty and the deeper meaning we are convinced that this antique crucifix too will find a new home soon. Whether it be in a private home, monastery or in a church, this work of religious art from the late 1800's will never fail to impress. Thanks to the pair of metal hooks on the back, safely mounting this ecclesiastical antique tight to your wall will be very easy to do. Our fair price for this one of a kind crucifix even includes perfect packing (in a custom made crate) and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days. Maximum height x width x depth of the cross & corpus: 56 x 30.5 x 8 inches. Maximum height x width of the antique wooden corpus...

  • Early 1900 and Very Fine Quality Hand Carved Wall Crucifix / Jesus on the Cross
    Located in Lisse, NL
Sizeable crucifix with a finer quality carved corpus of Christ. Looking at Christ like this and thinking about the gruesome way in which He lost His earthly life, the crucifix (in our view) is a symbol of what 'telling people the truth' can lead to. 'The truth does not have many friends' is something I once read. Looking at what is going on in the world today, in most countries that still is the case. However, we feel that we (humans), nevertheless, are still becoming more loving, civilized, empathetic and self-conscious. Mind you, this good size wall crucifix dates from the early 1900s and the cruelties that people did to one another for acting or being different than 'normal' in those days, in most cases were far worse than what we see in this day and age. Looking at Christ on the cross with this in mind, we have come along way and we are slowly, but surely evolving in the right direction. Maybe it is just some of our 'leaders' who are lacking behind. Christ on the cross should therefor also be a reminder of someone who has lived and foreseen all this and who should therefor always be a beacon of hope and light when things are not going our way, yet. What attracted us most in this work of religious art are the quality details of His anatomy and the warm patina of this finely carved corpus. The facial features of this superb corpus of Christ reveal...
