About the Item
This mid-century wall crucifix is a testament to meticulous craftsmanship. The elongated cross, maintaining consistent proportions, is hand-painted in semi-glossy black. The Christ figure is set within this tall and narrow frame, with hands and feet nailed, and elbows lowered to the ankles, displaying straight lines that capture the essence of the human form in an Art Deco style.
A deep red glossy aureola accentuates the Christ's head, positioned upright and looking to the side. The elongated facets of each body volume, from the rectangular torso to the square toes, draw inspiration from the grandeur of monumental stone statues in a Brutalist fashion.
The Christ's shoulder bears an unusually placed white drape, reminiscent of a Roman garment. Equally unusual are the highly detailed large nails, a rare occurrence in similar pieces from this period.
This artwork is a testament to the genuine artistry of a mature artist, presenting an authentic and distinctive creation.
