Unique Hand Carved Art Deco Wall Crucifix w. Suffering Christ in Tears Sculpture

About the Item

European work of religious art from the Art Deco era. Having sold many works of religious art we immediately noticed the tears that are on this suffering Christ wall crucifix. This 1920s Art Deco plaque by an unknown (because unsigned) artist is one of only a very few sculptures of Christ in tears. Thinking about the absence of emotional expression on most of Christ's pictures and sculptures it came to me how he hardly ever resisted to what happened to him and also how he hardly ever seemed to have complained. Maybe what makes a person truly spiritual is when he or she surrenders to life (as Eckhart Tolle calls it). If you don't (feel the need to) complain about or dwell on what cannot be changed then you won't suffer. However, everyone who has ever been overwhelmed by emotions, knows that sometimes we ourselves don't even know exactly why we are in tears. We therefor will not even try to attempt guessing why Jesus in this beautifully carved wall sculpture is in tears. If this work of religious art stirs your soul then maybe you should be its next custodian. Mind you, our price for this unique antique includes perfect packing and also worldwide shipping from our store to your door in just 4 days. This important antique carved statue of Christ nailed on the cross was crafted in Lyon, France, circa 1850. Found in a private chapel in the Rhone Valley, the large antique cross features a detailed hand carved sculpture of Jesus nailed on a wooden cross with forged iron nails over his hands and feet. The painted sculpture is well-proportioned, and has realistic details throughout the body, face, and hair. The pediment has the Latin inscription INRI (in John 19:19), which in English translates to "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews", and John 19:20 states that this was written in three languages, Hebrew, Latin, and Greek during the crucifixion of Jesus. The title "King of the Jews" is only used in the New Testament by gentiles, namely by the Magi, Pontius Pilate, and the Roman soldiers. In contrast, the Jewish leaders use the designation "King of Israel". Although the phrase "King of the Jews" is used in most English translations, it has also been translated "King of the Judeans". The life-size religious crucifix...
