A NOTE ON WILLIAM ELLIOTT & SONS:
The firm was founded in London around 1804 when William Elliott opened a shop in London. The firm became known as “William Elliott and Sons” in 1850. In 1853 it became known as “Elliott Bros.”. It began using the signature "Elliott Bros London" in 1873 and “Elliott Bros (London) Ltd” in 1916. It manufactured architectural tools and rulers and had a retail premises at 56 Strand in London in the 1850's.
