This work describes the extraordinary emulation aroused in Russian artistic circles by the October Revolution. A radically new political program had to correspond with a radically new aesthetic. Some of the most gifted artists of their generation, including Rodchenko and Maiakovsky, put their talent at the service of the young Republic. We know how they got damaged in History. The fact remains that this short period preceding the death of Lenin and the establishment of the Stalinist dictatorship was extremely rich on the artistic level, seeing in particular the development of constructivism. The illustrations are magnificent and the commentary precise and documented.
A very scarce reference work on early Soviet graphic arts. Contains many color reproductions of advertising and posters.
