Oxidised Surveyors Level by Reid and Young

About the Item

Oxidised surveyors level by Reid and Young Mounted on a circular base with threaded aperture or tripod mounting with four holding rings. Thirteen and a half inch adjustable brass telescope surmounted by a central spirit level. Three and a half inch compass mounted below with silvered scale, locking bar and side mounted prism for viewing the scale. This fine instrument is numbered (No.10) and marked ‘Reid and Young late with Kelvin and James White Ltd, Glasgow and London’. It retains it’s original mahogany carrying case. C.1920 Kelvin and James White took over the business of James White one of the leading instrument makers of the day. James White was working from 1850 to 1900 from various addresses in Glasgow.
