Plaster paper plaster and glass teaching model of the eye France late 1800s.

About the Item

Anatomical teaching model made of plaster cast paper and glass of the human eye fully disassembled, mounted on ebonized wooden board. French manufacture of the late 19th century. The model shows the structures of the eye and is hand-painted while the bulb is depicted in partially broken painted glass. Good condition signs of wear and chips consistent with age and partial breakage of glass bulb. Measures 19x16 h 20 cm - 7.5x6.3x7.9 inches. The art of creating anatomical models developed especially in Bologna beginning in the first half of the 1700s, in a historical phase in which great attention was being paid to observation and experimental research, so the desire to privilege the study of scientific subjects through a type of teaching marked by practical demonstration was alive among leading scholars.
