American Art Deco Chrome, Bakelite and Enamel Floor Ashtray by Belmet Products

This strongly designed American Art Deco floor standing ashtray was manufactured by Belmet Products of Brooklyn, NY and designed by Charles Hardy (see Hardy's 1938 patent below) the celebrated designer of the company's iconic smoking table and round bar. It features Hardy's signature lift top chrome ashtray with a spherical brown Bakelite knob. The ashtray housing is set into a brown enameled drum shaped top that is decorated around its circumference with six small chrome pill sized disks each with an incised X to the centre. Beneath this is a cream enameled collar that caps a brown enameled fluted column which is in turn attached to a cream domed base by a chrome ring. The original metal removable ash receiver is nestled into the column and can be lifted out by a central bar. It has Belmet Products, Brooklyn NY USA. Pats Pend.1422 molded into the original gold painted underside of the base. This piece is in excellent all original vintage condition and displays beautifully.
