Asian Modern Designed Cast Iron Incense Burner / Ashtray Japan 1960s

About the Item

Wonderful large cast iron Japanese vessel to be used as an incense burner or a heavy ashtray, perfect for outside.  The vessel's design consists of a slab of the metal on top of a deep circular receptacle.  The decoration is of a faux wood finish on the top and the cover has four openings and a moth or butterfly as the handle. Made in the traditional Nambu ironware technique. In Japan moths are view as Spirits and was a popular symbol with Samurai, since it symbolized immortality, eternal life, indestructibility, Measurements:  8 3/8 inches square x 3 inches high Condition: Very Good. Minor wear consistent with age and use. No issues.
