Birks Solid 9-Karat Yellow Gold Cigarette Case with Blue Outer Leather Envelope
About the Item
This large and substantial solid 9-karat yellow gold cigarette case was made in Birmingham England and dates to the late 1930s. The case was sold by the renowned Birks Department Store chain and was presumed to have been an item from their 'Estate Collection'. The gold case has a raised and fine engine turned panel on the front and back, and rounded and stepped sides. The inside has two hinged flaps and is hallmarked "9" ".375" on both the top and bottom. The Birmingham anchor is hallmarked on the top, but the maker could not be determined. The inside of the top is clearly engraved "F.D. Chapman" and "Montreal" underneath. This gold case comes with a blue leather protective case which is stamped with the Birks lion insignia on the inside of the top flap and the front of the case is accented with a gold border. The weight of the gold is approximately 220 grams.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Some minor wear to the finish on both the outside and inside of the solid gold case as photographed. One spring mechanism on an inner flap is not working. One very small slight depression noted on the back. Hinges and clasp mechanism work well.
