About

Lovely Art Deco bookends designed by George Nilsson (1888-1975) for Gero, Netherlands. Cute rabbit shape in chromed metal with long plate. Measurements for one bookend: 5.50 in. wide (14 cm) x 3.94 in. deep (10 cm) x 4.75 in. high (12 cm). George Nilsson was Danish and worked for Georg Jensen Company. In 1925, he left to design for Gero. Gero was founded in 1912 as Gerofabriek in Zeist, Holland. In the 1920s, Gero began hiring renowned artists to design their collection including Chris Van der Hoef, A.D. Copier and George Nilsson. Nilsson worked primarily at the Danish branch of Gero which made pieces for the domestic Danish market. The great depression caused the Danish branch of the company to close in 1933.
