M Carr American Art Nouveau Pair Bronze Egyptian Revival Bookends
About the Item
An exceptional pair Art Nouveau American Egyptian revival bronze bookends by M Carr dating from around 1910. The heavily cast bookends have a flat shaped base mounted with two molded Egyptian mummy columns supporting a panel molded with a three stem plant in a pot with seed heads to two stems. The bookends have original green velvet applied to the bases and both are signed M Carr to the foot of one of the columns. Both are also marked CAST BY GRIFFOUL, NEWARK, N.J. to the lower back edge. From our research we have found similar examples described as made for Tiffany however there are no markings on these indicating that this is the case. Both retain a wonderful rich brown aged patina.
In good condition with light wear associated with age and use.
