18th Century English Staffordshire Pearlware Neoclassical Faux Marble Obelisks
About the Item
English Staffordshire Pearlware Neoclassical Faux Marble Obelisks on Pedestal Bases,
Wood Family,
Circa 1790-1800
The pair of Neoclassical pearlware pottery obelisks are of outstanding quality. They are tall in height-double the usual size I have previously owned. They are four-sided with the top columns tapering and are painted in a gray marble color. The pedestal base has a central section painted in an ochre and black color with the base in a green and black marble color. The top of the supporting base with a projecting lip is in a brown and white.
Dimensions: 14 1/4 inches high x 3 1/4 inches x 3 1/4 inches (36.83cm high x 8.26cm square base)
Condition: the extremely rare obelisks are in overall very good condition. One has a repaired chip to the column on the back side and a small flake invisibly touched up. A small hairline runs through the hollow base of one.
