Antique British Wilkes & Son Locked Metal Trunk for Export, circa 1800

About the Item

A 19th century locked metal trunk made for export by the British firm Wilkes & Son. This rectangular trunk was made in metal and painted like a red leather reproduction. Gilt hardware reinforces the corners while a three piece metal lockset secures the contents. The trunk is carried by a simple metal handle. The front showcases the quote "Best English Trunk". Made in Europe by Wilkes & Son, this trunk was designed for export. This 19th century antique British Wilkes & Son locked metal trunk for export would add an industrial touch to any decoration, perhaps in a living room where it could enhance a travel theme or den where it could be used to store documents.
