About the Item
The imagination in this piece is extremely rich, and at the same time makes clear reference to art history, in particular Dutch painter Piet Mondrian in its bold color combinations and modern design. Mondrian was an important contributor to the De Stijl art movement. His non-representational art, which he termed Neo-Plasticism, form championed purity and simplicity, and occupied a unique position of balancing form and function. Gerrit Rietveld, also part of De Stijl movement, interpreted the principles of neo-plasticism beyond painting into furniture and architecture.
Architecture is Frozen Music is the only example of neo-plasticism interpreted as a piano. This instrument is the design’s prototype and is one-of-a-kind. A series was never built.
