About the Item

Thanks for looking at this refurbished, fully functioning mid-century stereo console. Designed in 1965 by international legends Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, the rr-126 is an iconic work of modern Industrial Design. Handcrafted in Italy according to its 1965 specs, the console includes a Dual turntable with and updated cartridge, AM/FM radio, and multiple audio outputs for connecting external sources like a subwoofer or an additional amp. The speakers not only provide top-notch sound, but they're versatile enough to flip up and down at the side or the top for the best fit for your environment. And it's even more mobile thanks to the cart it sits on with forged aluminium wheels. As much a piece of art as it is a record console, the Brionvega is a beautiful addition to any design-savvy office or home. So much so, it was David Bowie's prized possession, as he was well known as an iconic art aficionado. David Bowie's personal Brionvega was identical to this one, down to color and integration. David Bowie's personal record player – a Brionvega rr-126 turntable designed as a "musical pet" – has sold at auction for £257,000. The Starman's pride and joy sold as part of a two-day auction at Sotheby's. Designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in Italy in 1966, the turntable was styled as the singer's "musical pet". It's made of plastic-laminated wood, painted aluminium and polycarbonate, and comes on castors. This is a cherished and much respected Brionvega cabinet. It shows great time period patina but refinished to a great looking piece. The original and turntable have both been rebuilt by the country's most notable restoration technician and process and is ready for years of enjoyment and performance. We have also installed a new Bluetooth receiver so it can stream any of your playlists on your smartphones and smart devices, yes, even your TV. We can add Sonos system integration if desired. Our shop has been acquiring beautiful pieces from the mid-century period for our customers for years and between our employees and techs we have over 100 years of experience in this. We acquire from various sources, including exclusive estate brokers and sales, antique shops, restoration shops and well known collectors in this area. The radio and internal amplifier have been rebuilt. It functions as originally designed. The record player requires refurbishment, and we have one at the ready. This is prices with the original one in not working condition, but can be optionally refurbished. When you sell 750 plus mid century consoles like we just did, you've kind of seen it all. All of our consoles are from the 50s or 60s. Most go through an intense refinishing process as an upgrade, through our studio shop. but our goal is to keep it looking like it is from the period, and may contain some condition patina consistent with the age. We will of course cover as much as you'd like, and refinish further if requested, however understand that we don't fully destroy the period integrity of these artifacts by fully sanding through and trying to rid of all nicks and fades and scratches that help show and flatter the piece.
