Title: Vintage Hermes French Signature Orange Silk Scarf and Irish Linen Cushion Pillow Description: The ‘crème de la crème’ of scarves, this beauty is a one-of-a-kind luxury cushion (pillow) created from an exquisite vintage silk Hermes fashion scarf. The French company began in 1837 producing superior quality leather goods, harnesses and saddles, which makes sense that 100 years later the main theme on their luxury scarves is equestrian. Hermes scarves, known as ‘carre’ (squares), have become a symbol of French chic and are a highly desirable object across the globe that still continues to delight. Favoured by the ‘jet-setters’ of the 50s and 60s and gaining iconic status by Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and this particular elegant design even worn by Queen Elizabeth II. In a very striking orange hue signature of the iconic brand. Framed by a dramatic boarder that pops, along with the brand’s signature, ’Hermes’ in the bottom left hand corner. The fabric was personally hand-picked by Katie at antiques market ‘Marche aux Puces Saint-Ouen’ on the outskirts of Paris. On a sumptuous thick silk soft to the touch, twill silk with a beautiful texture. Backed in new 100% pure Irish linen, the aristocrat of textiles and certified by the Irish Linen Guild, lined in a layer of natural bamboo cloth, filled with new custom-made plush duck feather insert and a concealed zip. The traditional oatmeal color linen is a combination of the unbleached raw colour of the natural flax plant on the weft intertwined with pristine white on the warp, resulting in a beautiful melange effect. Would be a superb statement piece to one’s interior. Would look divine on a velvet or rattan sofa or paired with a Hermes throw (blanket). The name of the print, ’Clic Clac’ - alluding to the clattering of horses - along with the brand’s signature, ’Hermes’, and artist Julia Abadie’s name, ‘J. Abadie’, proudly feature within the picture. Note the text ‘Hermes Souris’, translating as Hermes ‘Mouse’ or ‘Mice’, and ‘Clic Clouc’. First designed in 1979, the attractive equestrian design is a delicately detailed illustration of elaborate bridal equipment - with various buckles, a pair of traditional leather blinkers, six old fashioned blackthorn horsewhips and pommels. In a soft, delicate blue and subtle creamy beige tone with muted browns colour-way with an essence of Mid-Century Modern design. It was made using the ‘Lyonnaise technique’ silk screen process with each of it’s 13 frames traditional laid one by one by hand (the more complex patterns can go out to 42). Before being carefully unravelled to create our cushion, the edge was delicately hand rolled and hemmed, a distinctive French style finish of all Hermes scarves.
